Jan Schuette is an innovative educator and director. His films have screened on major film festivals like Cannes, Venice, Berlin and Sundance. He has been the director of the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin and the Dean of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He has founded numerous successful educational programs, including Serial Eyes and the Atelier Ludwigsburg Paris, and has served as a professor for film at Harvard University and Harvard Extension School for many years. Currently he is the distinguished professor for film directing at the Shanghai Theatre Academy.

In 2002 he was a member of the Cannes Film Fest Jury together with Martin Scorsese, Judith Godrèche, Abbas Kiarostami, and Tilda Swinton.
